ABRAMS PRESS ACQUIRES MORAL MEDICINE BY PHYSICIAN, PUBLIC HEALTH SCHOLAR, AND PROGRESSIVE ACTIVIST
DR. ABDUL EL-SAYED
New York, New York – January 4, 2019 – Abrams Press is proud to announce the Spring 2020 publication of Moral Medicine by physician, public health scholar, and progressive activist Dr. Abdul El-Sayed. Moral Medicine will draw on El-Sayed’s unique experiences in epidemiology, public health, and progressive politics to analyze the major challenges facing Americans and the American political system. The book will mix in El-Sayed’s personal experiences, telling his personal story of his Egyptian heritage, Michigan upbringing, and education in the United States and abroad as a Rhodes Scholar, and why he left medicine for broader public service including his time as Health Commissioner for the City of Detroit. Abrams Press’ Executive Editor Jamison Stoltz acquired the book at auction from El-Sayed’s literary agents Dara Kaye and Anna Sproul-Latimer of Ross Yoon Agency.
“As a doctor, I learned that the key to healing is to listen. And for the past 18 months, traveling around my state, I got to listen to the pain and frustration Americans carry because our politics have failed them,” said Dr. Abdul El-Sayed. “This book is about the epidemic of insecurity that I got to see firsthand, and what it will take to rebuild our politics around the empathy we will need to solve it.”
“Abdul El-Sayed’s extraordinary background—in medicine, epidemiology, and public health—and his passionate advocacy for progressive politics are quickly making him an essential voice. I am thrilled that Abrams Press is going to be publishing his book, which will be as unique and fascinating as Abdul himself,” said Stoltz.
