Craft Errata: Handknit Holidays

Review these corrections and clarifications if you have the first or second printing of this book; the corrections for these errors appear in bold type. All of these changes were made in the 3rd printing.

Menorah Pillow (page 36)
The pillow shown in the photograph was made with 5 balls of yarn, but some knitters have found that they need 6 balls.

CLARIFICATION: Under Pillow Front, Line 1 should read: Using larger needles, scrap yarn, and Provisional Chain CO, CO 76 sts; with working yarn, begin Double Moss St for Lower Border.

Last line of Pillow Front (before Note) should read: Work 96 rows of chart (not 97 as stated.

Rows 41 and 42 of the Chart on page 38 are each missing a dot in stitch 3. This stitch should be purled on the RS; knit on the WS.

The Chart Key (page 39) contains two unnecessary symbols (sixth and seventh from the top) and may be ignored.

CLARIFICATION: Under Back Lower Piece, the first line should read: Using larger needles, scrap yarn, and Provisional Chain CO, CO 76 sts; with working yarn, begin Double-moss St as for lower Front border.

CLARIFICATION: Under Back Upper Piece, the first line should read: Using larger needles, working yarn, and Provisional Chain CO, CO 76 sts; with working yarn, begin Double-moss St as for lower Back.

Also, the final three lines of the Back Upper Piece section should read: Work even as established for 64 rows from the CO. Do not BO. Break off yarn; leave sts on spare thread. Leave CO in place permanently.

CLARIFICATION: Under I-Cord Knot Buttons, third sentence should read: Tie into a large knot twice and tack ends onto WS to create button.

Aran Tree Skirt and Stocking (page 46)
One page 49, under Toe, correct Stocking instructions as follows:

Toe

K13, pm, p3tog, p11, sssp-26 sts remain.

Decrease Rnd: ssk, work to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, p2tog, work to last 2 sts, ssp. Repeat Decrease Rnd until 10 sts remain. Graft Toe sts together with Kitchener st (see Special Techniques, page 176).

Candy Cane Hats (page 65)
Under Crown Shaping, Round 1 should read: K1, *skp, k4; repeat from * to last 5 sts, skp, k3.

Stained Glass Scarf (page 80)
“Two-Stranded Method” Note should read: When working this stitch pattern, with exception of first and last st, all sts are worked in pairs; either a [k1, p1] pair or a [p1, k1] pair. The [k1, p1] pairs produce a knit st on both sides of fabric; the [p1, k1] pairs produce a contrasting purl st on both sides of fabric. For all [k1, p1] pairs, carry both colors in same hand, taking both strands to back when knitting and both strands to front when purling; knit or purl with only color indicated. For all [p1. k1] pairs, separate strands with color to be purled in front and color to be knit in back. Make sure strands are not twisted.

Over the Knee Socks (page 82)
The Ankle Chart on page 84 contains an error. The first cable on Round 8 should begin on stitch 1, not stitch 2 as shown.

Flap-Top Mittens (page 103)
Under finished measurements, change finished length to 7 (9 1/2, 12)” long.
On page 104, second column, change the first paragraph to read “work even until piece measures 1 1/2 (2, 2 1/2)” from beginning of ribbing.”

Snegurochka’s Party Hat (page 124)
Add a “k2tog” symbol to Stitch 16 on Row 33 of Hat Chart.

River Forest Gansey (page 134)
Under Shape Cap, after binding off stitches of the beginning of next 2 rows, immediately begin decreases. Do not “work one row even” as indicated.

Evergreen Shawl (page 144)

On the Evergreen Border Chart, change the little broomstick symbol (stitch #47 in rows 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 27, 29, 31, 33, and 35) to a white triangle (which is defined in the key as Slip 1, k2tog, psso). Make the same change on Row 3 of the Center Chart.
